You can bring your WordPress site from another provider without your visitors noticing. The trick is to copy first and switch the domain last.
Option 1: automatic migration (if your current provider uses cPanel)
- In your client area, open your hosting service and find Migrate my site.
- Enter your current provider's cPanel access (server, username and password). They are used only for the copy and are not stored.
- Click Start migration. We copy files, databases and e-mail; you see the progress on the same page.
- When it finishes, check your site and then change your domain's nameservers to ours.
Option 2: with a migration plugin
- On the old WordPress install a migration plugin (for example All-in-One WP Migration or Duplicator) and create the export.
- Install a clean WordPress on our hosting (see the install guide).
- Install the same plugin on the new WordPress and import the file. Then log in with the old site's user and password.
Option 3: manual
- Download every file of the old site (FTP or its file manager) and export the database from phpMyAdmin.
- In our cPanel create a database and user, and import the
.sqlfile in phpMyAdmin. - Upload the files to
public_htmland editwp-config.phpwith the new database name, user and password (DB_HOSTislocalhost).
The final step: switching the domain
- Change the nameservers at your registrar only when the site works on our server. Propagation takes 1 to 24 hours.
- Do not cancel the old hosting until 48 hours after the change, in case some visitors still reach the old server.
- If your domain is registered with us, the nameservers are already set.
